LOCAL DIVE SITES

Holiday Inn Phi Phi Housereef : Right  in front of Holiday Inn Phi Phi is an excellent little housereef located.  The reef is ideal for snorkeling but offers as well a drop off to 10-12  meter where the sandy bottom starts. Hard and soft corals like staghorncorals,  braincorals as well as giant sea fans and sea anemones grow on this reef.  Star pufferfish, porcupinefish and all sorts of angelfish in habit the  reef. The housereef is specially suitable for beginners, training dives  and night dives.

Mosquito Island (Ho Young) : This island  is located only ten minutes away from Holiday Inn Phi Phi. It offers three  different dive sites. The east and north side of the island offer dive  sites with a maximum depth of 14 meter. You''ll find a good collection  of hard corals, mainly huge fields of staghorn corals. Very often there  are leopardsharks and reefsharks to see, as well as lionfish, moray  eels and especially at the northern part, blue spotted stingrays. Mosquito  Island is good for beginners and experienced divers. When the tide is  going off is an excellent place for drift dives.

The dive spot on the west side of the island  is a bit off shore. It is a pinnacle and the depth varies between 8m  on the top and 25m on the bottom. The pinnacle is covered with colorful  soft corals and oysters, with huge beds of anemones in the shallower  areas. You will likely spot leopardsharks and stingrays on the sandy  floor around the rock. Furthermore a lot of lionfish and scorpionfish  inhabit this colorful rock. This spot is excellent for experienced divers.

Bamboo Island (Ko Pai) This  island in front of Holiday Inn Phi Phi  is located only five minutes  away from the beach. The depth varies between 6 and 12 meter. Probably  the main attraction at the site is the great amount of different hard  corals which makes diving at this place unforgettable. It is a spectacular  scenery formed by bommies and huge table corals and surrounded by a great  variety of fishlife. This coral garden will give you the impression of  diving in an aquarium. It is an excellent dive sport for beginners and  experienced divers.

Phantoom Wreck : The ship is right in  front of the Holiday Inn Phi Phi  and it only takes 5 minutes to go  there. The wreck is a glassbottom boat which was sunken 15 years ago.  It is located on 22 meter of depth and it is lying up side down. The  size of the Phantoom is 30 meter long and 6 meter wide. Because of the  long time the ship was sunken it is covered with corals and hardly to  recognize that it once was a glassbottom boat.

Surrounded by big schools of squid, snapper and  fussilliers it is also a home for a few huge grouper, many lionfish  and scorpionfish. The Phantoom is an adventure for experienced divers.

Ao Nui : This "James Bond  like" is island is located only 10 minutes away from Holiday Inn Phi Phi. The depth varies between 6 and 25 meter. This spot offers a wide  spectrum of different sceneries. It starts as a wall dive, goes over into  a few pinnacles covered by colorful softcorals and at the end you will  find a few canyons and little caves. Likewise the fishlife around Ao Nui  has a wide spectrum. Beside all the common and colorful coralfishes this  site is inhabited by grouper, moray eels, octopuss and leopardsharks.  AoNui  is a challenge for every diver.

 

 

REMOTE DIVE SITES

Phi Phi Lee : This uninhabited  Island is only 20 minutes away from Holiday Inn Phi Phi. Around Phi Phi  Lee are about ten different dive sites located. The most popular sites are  : Palong Bay, Palong Wall, Maya ay, Loh Samah, Loh Samah Wall and Phi Lee  Wall. The depth of all these dive sites vary from 5 to 25 meter. You will  see limestone walls with lobsters, moray eels, octopuss, feather stars,  barrel sponges gorgonian seafans and wire corals. The reefs are covered  with Christmas tree worms, fan worms and nudibranches in several colours.  A good variety of reef fish inhabit all the dive spots around Phi Phi Lee,  including triggerfish, wrasses, parrotfish, angelfish, pufferfish and butterflyfish.  On dive sites like Palong Bay and Phi Lee Wall you will often see green  turtles. Especially the wall dives offer good drift dives. Good vies for  either experienced divers or beginners.

Bida Islands (Ko Bida Nok and Ko  Bida Nai) : The two Bida Islands are located south of Phi Phi Lee and  it takes 25 minutes from Holiday Inn Phi Phi. The reefs around the islands  are good for four or five different dives. The depth varies from 5 to 30  meter. Limestone boulders litter the seafloor to a depth of 25 meters. Hard  corals grow an the shallower parts, while barrel sponges, gorgonian sea  fans and wire corals thrive at deeper levels. Occasionally you see leopardsharks,  reefsharks and eaglerays in the area. Squirrellfish, scorpiongish, trumpetfish  and lionfish are among the fish species common to the Bida Islands. But  you will also find huge moray eels, batfish and especially at Bida Nok,  green turtles. The echinoderms are well represented by various feather stars,  sea urchins, sea stars and sea cucumbers. The two Bida Islands offer divesites  for experienced divers but they are as well as a challenge for beginners.

Phi Phi Sharkpoint (Hin Bida and  Karang Haeng) : These two dive spots are located south of Holiday Inn Phi Phi. The two pinnacles are 25 minutes away from the resort. The  bottom topography of these two dive sites are different from that found  around Phi Phi Lee and Phi Phi Don. On both pinnacles the seafloor slopes  gently away from a depth of 8 meters to more than 22 meters. Karnag Haeng  is tollay submerged while Him Nida only breaks the surface during low tide.  The upper part of both rocks are covered with a carpet of anemones. Expect  to see a profusion of marine life - sea fans and wire corals, soft and hard  corals. Damselfish, batfish, groupers, butterflyfish, lionfish and triggerfish  inhabit this area among other species. On both sites you can expect to see  leopardsharks and nursesharks. Because the two rocks are located in the  middle of the sea, during the season (January-April) with a little bit of  luck whale sharks can be seen. The dive spots are a challenge for beginners  and experienced divers.

Phi Phi Don : This Island is  the biggest of the two Phi Phi Islands. Next to the above described Local  dives sites, Phi Phi Don offers a few more remote areas. These are : Hin  Phae (Long Beach), Hin Dot, Watergate Reef and Watergate Wall. All these  spots are within easy reach in 10 to 15 minutes from Holiday Inn Phi Phi.  An all this dive sites you will find a wide collection of hard and soft  corals. Fish numbers and variety are not different to the other described  dive sites of Phi Phi Don. The areas are suitable for beginners and experienced  divers.

Hin Daeng and Hin Muang : These  two pinnacles are located southwest of  Holiday Inn Phi Phi. It takes one  and a half hour to two hours to reach these remote areas. They are truly  world-class dive sites. Hin Daeng is a massive limestone pinnacle which  is protruding a few meters above the surface, while Hin Muangs rock is totally  submerged. Both sites are characterized by their vertical wall drops straight  down to 50 meters. Both pinnacles are covered with colorful soft and hard  corals, with huge beds of anemones. You will likely spot large stingrays  on the sandy bottom abound the rocks. Schools of fish like giant barracuda,  tuna and tersely are common. Spectacular is the amount of moray eels and  scorpionfish in this area. Whale sharks and manta rays might decide to show  up. The two dive sites are a challenge for every experienced diver.
